My fascination with butterflies began when my stepdaughter got married and chose a butterfly theme for her wedding. I started experimenting with different ways to create them in fabric, and before long I was having so much fun that I couldn't stop making butterflies.

Each butterfly begins as a piece of constructed textile. I stitch together tiny bits of yarn to create an entirely new fabric, then cut each butterfly to shape and add the distinctive black outlines. Every butterfly is made individually, and each one takes about an hour to create.

Metamorphosis brings together dozens of these handcrafted butterflies into a single composition, celebrating both the beauty of butterflies and the remarkable transformation they represent.

After completing Metamorphosis, I continued creating individual butterflies and displayed them in shadowbox frames. They quickly found new homes and are now all part of private collections.
