The Suburban Wild Series celebrates the surprising abundance of wildlife that shares our Southern California neighborhoods. Inspired by the animals that visit my own backyard and the nearby parks, lakes, and open spaces, this series explores the rich natural world that exists alongside our everyday suburban lives.
From ducks and Canada geese to hummingbirds, rabbits, and other familiar visitors, each piece begins with moments of observation and connection with the wildlife that has adapted to life in Southern California's suburban landscape. These animals are not distant inhabitants of wilderness areas - they are our neighbors, quietly sharing our communities and reminding us that nature is never far away.
Each artwork in the series begins with close observation and careful attention to the animals that share our suburban landscape. Through thread painting and other fiber art techniques, I seek to capture not only their physical beauty, but also the sense of wonder and delight that comes from encountering wildlife in unexpected places.
Through the Suburban Wild Series, I invite viewers to pause, look more closely, and rediscover the wildness that exists just beyond their own back doors.
