Sometimes inspiration begins with a simple purchase.

While shopping one day, I came across a collection of remarkably realistic Christmas ornaments shaped like musical instruments. There were violins, guitars, trumpets, clarinets, and more.

I bought every one I could find.

At the time, I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with them. I simply knew they were too interesting to leave behind. Experience has taught me that when something sparks my imagination, it's worth paying attention, even if I don't yet know why.

The answer came later.

When I discovered shadowbox frames, the entire concept suddenly fell into place.

Each piece begins with a miniature collage quilt featuring fabrics related to a particular instrument. The quilt is mounted inside the shadowbox, and the matching instrument ornament is attached to the mat, creating a three-dimensional presentation that combines fiber art with found objects.

Although the overall design is consistent, every shadowbox is unique. Each instrument is paired with its own selection of fabrics, making every piece a small celebration of music.

These miniature shadowboxes combine several things I love: music, fabric, dimensional artwork, and the satisfaction of finding just the right home for an idea that had been waiting patiently for its moment.
