Some ideas are simply too ridiculous to ignore.

This was one of them.

If I were a cat and wanted to catch a nice, tasty bird, how would I do it?

I'd wear a disguise, of course.

In my imagination, this ingenious feline came up with the perfect plan. He covered himself in feathers, climbed to the top of a telephone pole, and quietly joined the birds.

Well... almost.

The flock seems perfectly content, except for one observant little bird. While the others go about their business, that one bird closest to the cat appears to be looking at him with a healthy dose of suspicion, as if wondering, "Wait a minute... something doesn't seem quite right."

Like several of my other cat quilts, the cat is made from fake fur to give it a more lifelike appearance. This time, however, he has an added feature: real bird feathers to complete his less-than-convincing disguise.

Birds? of a Feather was never meant to tell a profound story. It grew from one of those delightfully silly ideas that popped into my mind and simply refused to go away until I turned it into a quilt.

Sometimes that's all the inspiration an artist needs.
