While wandering around Newport Beach, California, one lazy Sunday afternoon, I came across this Cape Dory Typhoon sailboat. Resting quietly at her mooring, she seemed almost lost in thought, as if she were contemplating where she wanted to go next.

That peaceful moment inspired Dreaming of Faraway Places. Rather than capturing a boat in motion, I wanted to capture the feeling of anticipation—the quiet pause before the next adventure begins.

Using thousands of individual stitches, I recreated the subtle reflections, gentle movement of the water, and warm coastal light that made this simple scene feel so inviting.

I even had fun framing this piece. The frame is covered with an authentic nautical chart, creating a finishing touch that complements the sailboat and celebrates its coastal inspiration.
