My husband and I were enjoying lunch on the patio at our favorite lakeside restaurant when these two mallards wandered from table to table in search of a handout. We resisted the temptation to feed them, but they were more than happy to pose while I photographed them.

The reference photo captures the moment that inspired the artwork.

When I finished the piece, my husband looked at it and said, "That's suburban wild." The name perfectly captured the idea of wildlife adapting to life alongside people, and it eventually became the title of an entire series.

The Suburban Wild Series celebrates the wildlife that shares our suburban neighborhoods. Whether they're ducks strolling between restaurant tables, rabbits nesting under the patio, or geese taking over the parking lot, these animals have adapted remarkably well to living alongside us.

Sometimes the most interesting wildlife isn't found deep in the wilderness, it's right around the corner.
