Some landscapes are so vast they make us feel wonderfully small.
That was the feeling I wanted to capture in The Four Horsemen.
Rather than making the riders the dominant feature, I intentionally placed them high on a grassy ridgeline and kept them small in relation to the overall composition. The dramatic sky and expansive landscape become the real subjects of the piece, while the four riders simply provide a sense of scale.
Their silhouettes invite the viewer to imagine the story. Who are they? Where have they come from? Where are they going?
The title, The Four Horsemen, naturally brings to mind many different associations, but I wanted to leave the interpretation open to the viewer. The artwork is less about a specific narrative and more about the feeling of standing in a place where the landscape seems to stretch on forever.
For me, the real subject isn't the riders.
It's the immensity of the world around them.
